Mission Creek Mountain Bike Skills Park, located on 1960 Hollywood Road South, Kelwona, kick-started its second season this Sunday. This mountain bike park has six dirt jump lanes and is being constantly upgraded as funds trickle in. While in 2010 season, when the mountain bike part was inaugurated, it had a number of trails for mountain bike enthusiasts, but this year new tracks have been added for beginners.
An official at the mountain bike park facility said, "Right now we're looking at trying to make the small and medium lines 'table tops' instead of 'gap jumps'. Table tops provide lower risk scenarios-especially for younger and less experienced riders." The Mission Creek Mountain Bike Park is open to all and it friendly to families, but hard on loiterers.

Three students from California State University, Long Beach have created a hybrid electric Dirt bike by combining a mountain bike with a dirt bike; you can run it by pedaling just like a mountain bike where as with just a twist of throttle you can keep it running like a dirt bike. The dirt bike can bike can be charged by plugging it into an electrical outlet.
The trio created the Dirt bike using around $4,000. The 90 pound dirt bike was accomplished with a carbon fiber frame and the aluminum swing arm suspension known as the Electric Motocross Bicycle (EMXB).
The Dirt bike can reach the top speed of 30 mph, however provided with a flat surface to run and lighter suspensions it can trigger 40 mph. As long as the range is concerned, when fully charged it can cover a distance of 40 miles with a wise throttle use supported with pedaling.

The number of mountain bike related injuries in the United States has fallen considerably since the mid-1990s, a new study shows. The decrease is likely because of a combination of factors, said the researchers.
"While some of the decline may be explained by a decrease in the number of people riding mountain bikes, there have also been a number of improvements to the bicycle design, such as disc brakes and dual-suspension systems, that help to reduce the incidence of mountain bike injuries," the study author said.
The most common types of mountain bike-related injuries are fractures and soft tissue injuries. Overall, men suffered more mountain bike related injuries, but women were more likely to suffer injury serious enough to require hospitalization. The study also found that riders aged 14 to 19 sustained twice as many traumatic brain injuries as mountain bike riders of other ages.
