Oldest Mountain Bike Race in Germany

The oldest mountain bike race in Germany, the 25th edition of the Munsingen Spring Classic, is set to kick off the domestic mountain bike season in that country as the first round of the 2011 International MTB-Bundesliga. Starters include world champion Jose Antonio Hermida and Olympic champion Sabine Spitz, along with the Cannodale and Ghost teams.

In all there will be more than 1300 participants in this years events, and 700 of them will be doing a marathon on Saturday. The elite racers will participate in a sprint distance race on Saturday evening before the traditional cross country race on Sunday. This race takes place six days before the UCI World Cup in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and serves as a final test for some of Europe's top cross country racers.
